At least seven passengers missing from capsized Hac Sa speedboat

About seven or eight people were still unaccounted for as local authorities searched the waters along the shore of Estrada de Hac Sa for three consecutive days following the capsize of a speedboat carrying suspected illegal immigrants on Friday. At around 4:00am Friday, a speedboat sailing the waters near the shore of Hac Sa capsized; the Macau Customs Service believe it was carrying around 17 to 18 passengers in all. “After the capsizing incident, we found a total of ten people, including three captains steering the boat,” a Customs spokesperson told Business Daily yesterday. “From the information they gave, we estimate that there were still seven or eight people unaccounted for.” Customs added that the passengers on the speedboat were suspected illegal immigrants from Mainland China who wanted to come here for “travelling and gambling” purposes. While the search for the missing is still ongoing, local authorities said they have already asked for assistance from their Mainland counterparts as their search scope has extended to up to two nautical miles from the Hac Sa shore.
