Beijing voices missions, hopes for MSAR

Zhang Dejiang, the Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee (CPPCC), presented at a joint meeting of Macau and Hong Kong members of the national committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference yesterday.
Following the closed-door meeting, Ho Teng Iat of the Macau delegation revealed to reporters that the Chinese leader recognised Macau’s economic and social developments and expressed the missions and hopes for the SAR’s committee members.
Zhang Dejiang said that the prioritised missions of Macau are to diversify its economy, as well as enhance the education of teenagers and harness the power of ‘love the country, love Macau’.
The hopes include comprehensively and accurately putting ‘one country, two systems’ and the Basic Law into practice, developing the economy, and improving people’s livelihood. Zhang Dejiang also appealed to the delegation for the members to project positive energy, to insist on ‘one country, two systems’ and discuss and negotiate in the face of issues.
Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, and also the former Chief Executive (CE) of Macau, Edmund Ho Hua Wah, plus the former CE of Hong Kong, now also serving as vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Tung Chee-hwa, also presented as the meeting.
Dubbed the two sessions, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which is the country’s top national advisory body, opened on Tuesday, while the meeting of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the top legislative body, begins today.
The sessions, attended by thousands of officials and business leaders, will discuss various issues including the economic reforms process and this year’s targets.
