Candidate group drops out of election

One of the candidate groups in this year’s Legislative Assembly elections has decided to withdraw from the running. The fifth group on the candidate list – Pink Love Citizens, also known as the Workers’ Self-Help Union Macau – announced it would be pulling out of the election via Facebook post, saying that they considered it more urgent to help the city recover from the recent damage wrought by typhoons Hato and Pakhar.
‘We notice that [repairing] the current condition of the city is much more important than taking part in the upcoming election,’ stated the group. ‘Therefore, we have decided to drop out of the sixth election.’ The union pledged to use their limited resources and time to help residents in need.
The group is led by Lei Kit Meng, chairman of the Workers’ Self-Help Union.
