Construction swells size of migrant labour force

Hiring by the construction industry was the chief cause of the number of migrant workers in Macau rising to 155,310 by the end of the second quarter of this year, 9,618 more than three months earlier, official data indicate. The Human Resources Office says the migrant workers worked mainly in hotels or restaurants, in construction or as domestic servants. The fastest growth in employment of migrant workers was in construction, the industry having employed 38,663 at the end of the second quarter, 24 percent more than three months earlier.
