Discussion on minimum wage set to start in Macau

The Standing Committee for the Coordination of Social Affairs will include the issue of minimum wage in its forthcoming meeting, it was announced yesterday. “Some members asked to discuss the minimum wage and we decided that in the next meetings the issue will be included on our agenda,” coordinator of the Standing Committee for the Coordination of Social Affairs Shuen Ka Hung told reporters yesterday. Mr Shuen expects all the parties can reach a consensus next year. “At least, both parts [employers and employees] have to show a willingness to gather to discuss the issue and to find a way to set up wage levels, as well as accept that there would be a law for that,” he said.
