Economy secretary unflustered by Kimren affair

Secretary for the Economy and Finance Francis Tam Pak Yuen thinks the suspected embezzlement of HK$8 billion (about US$1 billion) to HK$10 billion by a principal of junket operator Kimren will do little damage to Macau’s gaming market, our sister publication Business Daily reports. The newspaper quotes Mr Tam as telling reporters: “We cannot see any big impact on the whole market.” Credit Suisse has said the money suspected to have been embezzled last month was from a side-betting pool set up by junket operators. Mr Tam declined to comment on the source of the money.
