Galaxy Ent’l chairman anticipates higher growth

The chairman of casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd., Lui Che Woo, said he expects higher growth in the mass gaming segment starting from February next year, Hong Kong’s Chinese language media report.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 60th anniversary of K. Wah Group on Thursday, Mr. Lui said he believes the city’s drop in gaming earnings is bottoming out. He added that he has noticed recent increases in the number of premium mass gamblers and their bet sizes.
Mr. Lui, also the chairman and founder of K. Wah Group, said he hoped the Macau Government could encourage more Mainland Chinese visitors to travel to Macau, an act that would stimulate the gaming business here.
The casino operator’s Galaxy Phase II and sister property Broadway Macau opened on May 27. Galaxy Phase II includes the luxury hotels Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott, which make up a total of 1,350 rooms.
Mr. Lui said he has been “very satisfied” with the performance of Phase II since its opening, which has seen its hotel occupancy rate approach 100 per cent.
