Gambling venues back to Hainan in greater numbers

Hainan could soon have three gambling venues, just months after the closure of an illegal casino-bar called Jesters in Sanya Bay’s Mangrove Tree Resort World. Our sister publication Business Daily reports that Jesters has reopened with a license for a “special entertainment facility” and a second venue with 40 tables and 50 slot machines is preparing to open in the Ocean Sonic Resort, a 600-room hotel. A third, unnamed gaming venue is likely to open in a few months, the newspaper reports. Other “special entertainment” licences were likely, with a view to “developing Hainan”, the report said. Gambling is illegal in the mainland and winnings are paid in gifts or redemption tokens instead of cash.
