High staff turnover holds back MICE industry

Staff turnover in meetings and exhibitions companies can reach up to 90 percent a year, our sister publication Business Daily reports. Research commissioned by the Macau Convention and Exhibition Association found that the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry contributed 1 percent of the city’s gross domestic product in 2012. Macau Management Association researchers surveyed 75 MICE enterprises in October and November. Two-thirds said staff turnover had been more than 20 percent in the preceding 12 months. One had a turnover rate of almost 90 percent. The study found that the MICE industry was worth MOP3.53 billion (US$441.3 million) in 2012.
