Only half qualify for HB housing

The Housing Bureau says that only half of the eligible applicants for affordable housing units have passed its final qualification check, with some 326 family applicants having selected their new homes.
According to a press release by the Bureau yesterday, it had completed its final investigation into 1,180 eligible applicants for the public housing units. Of the total, only 612 applicants passed the check while 317 failed.
Meanwhile, some 145 family applicants need to re-submit their missing documents; 43 abandoned their applications; while 63 have had their application procedure halted or amended.
The Bureau claimed that it had given notice to 1,560 of the eligible applicants for the final qualification examination as at the end of last month, some 82.1 per cent of the total approved applicants.
It expects to complete the notification procedure for the remaining 17.9 per cent by the end of November.
Applicants who pass the final qualification check can select a flat from eight affordable housing projects under the application based on the number of their household members. These residences comprise 854 T1 units, 888 T2 units and 158 T3 units.
