Secretary for Security: Rumour that PLA killed resident originated in U.S.

The city’s Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak said rumours on the Internet about the People’s Liberation Army allegedly beating a resident to death had originated in the United States, local broadcaster TDM Radio reported. The Secretary told the press that the rumour was then forwarded to Hong Kong, passing through several servers from different countries before reaching the MSAR.
The rumour in question claimed that a local resident was beaten to death by PLA members during their mission to help cleanup and rescue efforts in the city last week.
Following the devastation of Typhoon Hato, various negative rumours have sprung up online.
