Tam expects stable labour market after 2017

The strains in the labour market will ease after 2017, once the new casino-resorts in Cotai are operating, Secretary for the Economy and Finance Francis Tam Pak Yuen has said. Our sister publication Business Daily quotes Mr Tam as saying demand for labour until 2017 will be the same as in the past few years – enough for the market to meet. “But after a rise in the employed population in the next three years, 2015 to 2017, there will be a long period of stability in human resources here,” he said. Mr Tam said he expected no “rapid expansion” of the labour market after 2017. Official data show the employed population numbered 370,400 at the end of last year. Migrant workers numbered 98,800.
