Airport security seizes 8 pct more contraband y-o-y

The security subsidiary of the Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), which operates the local Macau International Airport (MIA), recorded an 8 per cent increase in the amount of ‘contraband, dangerous goods and liquids’ seized throughout 2016, when compared to the previous year, according to a release by the group. The security arm – Macau Security Co Ltd (SEMAC) – noted that due to the ‘obvious increase’ in passenger volumes and aircraft movements throughout the year ‘security work in MIA was full of challenges’. The group noted that it also recorded a 15 per cent year-on-year increase in inspections of cargo and mail volume during 2016.
