Bank says Macau loss is Philippine, S. Korean gain

Deutsche Bank expects mainland Chinese deterred from gambling in Macau this year to bet their money in South Korean and Philippine casinos instead. The bank forecasts in a note that the campaign against corruption in the mainland will contribute to reducing annual gross gaming revenue in Macau’s casinos by 8 percent this year. “Macau’s weakness creates opportunities for Korea and the Philippines. Weakness in big markets means opportunities for mid-sized markets as Chinese gamblers travel farther to try new destinations,” the note says. Deutsche Bank predicts that gaming revenue in Philippine casinos will grow by 33 percent this year and that revenue from foreigners gambling in South Korean casinos will grow by 16 percent.
