Demand for academically qualified workers to rise

Various industries in Macau will require many more academically qualified workers in the next couple of years, the Tertiary Education Services Office forecasts. The office thinks the hospitality and events industries will need 14,300 more workers with academic qualifications, but doubts that even 2,000 will be available. The office forecasts that Macau will need up to 850 more nurses, over 1,500 more teachers and at least 330 more social workers between 2012 and next year. The full story on the pressing need for more academically qualified workers can be read in this month’s issue of Macau Business, available at newsstands or online.
