Hutchison network crashes for seven hours

An estimated total of 30,000 Hutchison Telephone (Macau) Co Ltd’s subscribers were unable to use text messaging and voicemail services for seven hours yesterday, following a network breakdown. Some customers also complained about not being able to make phone calls. The company’s network crashed between 11:40am and 6:20pm, due to instability in its home location server, which stores user data, according to a press statement Hutchison released yesterday. The company, which operates under the 3 Macau brand, estimates that 70 percent of its subscribers were affected. Hutchinson is Macau’s second largest mobile operator. The company faced a smaller breakdown in June, which the company blamed on firewall problems.
