Sri Lankan govt takes new tack on Packer casino

The government of Sri Lanka will allow a casino in a resort being developed there by Australian gaming mogul James Packer’s (pictured) Crown Resorts Ltd, as long as the casino operates under a licence held by a Sri Lankan partner in the project, Reuters reports. The news agency quotes government spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella as saying the government will restrict casinos to D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha, an area where the Crown Resorts development will be built, and where casinos can operate under licences held by Sri Lankans. The government had said on April 25 that no casino would be allowed in the Crown Resorts development. Mr Packer is co-chairman of Macau casino operator Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd.
